Athens Red, White & Boom In July 2020 Making Efforts To Go Forward with In-Car Viewing and Additional RestrictionsThe Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association initially announced on June 11, 2020 that public safety in the face of COVID-19 outbreaks and the increasing occurrence was to take precedent this year after initial guidelines for fireworks displays outlined not only social distancing guidelines but additional mitigation efforts like contact tracing and limiting capacity – a difficult task for a small organization that would require strict attendance control to a limited number and turning away crowds once capacity was met. Athens-Limestone Tourism is... ... re-evaluating the Red, White & Boom Fireworks display for July 4th after the public has expressed concerns about the loss of the annual tradition and is seeking permission from the State to go forward and is awaiting a response. If they state does not approve for the 4th of July, the initial plans of moving the fireworks to another holiday later in the year are still a viable possibility unless COVID-19 prevents the display entirely, then it will resume in 2021. '
If the Red, White & Boom Firework show does receive the go ahead from the state; as required, the social distancing of six feet between individuals and groups be maintained and for best practice, viewing be done from the vehicle. Additionally, anyone participating in the viewing does so willingly and at their own risk and by attending, agrees to release and hold harmless all organizers and associated event entities of any liability including contracting COVID-19 illness.
