The 10th annual CHICK-FIL-A NORTH ALABAMA RACE SERIES – ATHENS 10K/5K/1 MILE RUN is going virtual for 2020. Race organizers are challenging people to get off the couch and run to support the Marching Indians. Over the years, the race has had fantastic support from our community, averaging 400+ runners each race. Our runners are always cheered on by family and friends, making Chick-Fil-A Race Day a fun, community event, growing bigger every year.

Calhoun Launches New Nationally Accredited Logistics Training Programs

The Calhoun Community College Adult Education department, through a statewide partnership with the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC), has launched two certified logistics training programs and is now accepting applications. Registration for Sandhill Crane Season Opens on September 8

Last year, Alabama saw its first sandhill crane hunting season in more than 100 years. The season returns for 2020-2021 with 400 permit holders having the opportunity to hunt sandhill cranes in north Alabama. Registration for the permits opens on September 8. 

Norman Haley from Scottsboro, Alabama, has hunted sandhill cranes twice in Tennessee and was excited to have the opportunity to do so in his home state during the 2019-2020 season. 

“Sandhill crane hunting is very unique,” Haley said. “The anticipation of seeing the birds approach from a distance is exciting. The slow and graceful circling as they land in a field is a sight to see.”

Due to ecological, economic, and human health and safety concerns related to the potential impacts of nonnative animals, Alabama Administrative Code 220-2-.26 has been amended to prohibit any person, firm, association, or corporation from possessing, selling, offering for sale, importing, bringing, releasing, or causing to be brought or imported additional nonnative animals into the state of Alabama.
