Downtown Road Improvements Prompts August 9th Concert MoveGood things are coming to downtown Athens and that includes improved roads – which involves milling, grating and paving. Part of this work is expected to be carried out the week of August 9th, a big day for the Summer Concert Series: Singing on the Square – the closing show for the 2019 series. Hosted by Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association and sponsored by Jimmy Smith Buick GMC, the free concert series is set to present... ... Athens State Community Band directed by Stephen Porter for the final show originally planned for the Marion Street steps of the Limestone County Courthouse. However, with caution in mind of the potential for uneven surfaces and construction hazards that may imperil attendees, the decision was reached to change the venue for the show. The new location will be a showcase facility, the new Athens High School - Athens Performing Art Center. The Athens Performing Art Center recently hosted the inaugural event of the Athena Performing Art Series, Singer-Songwriter Evening. The Summer Concert Series show on August 9th will give the community another chance to peek inside what will soon be a premiere music event facility in our community and North Alabama. Attendees for the Summer Concert Series featuring the all-volunteer Athens State Community Band are invited to join the show kicking off at 7:00PM at the new high school located at 655 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens. No food or drinks are allowed in the facility. The concert is free and open to the public.
