City of Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks signed the proclamation... at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center as part of the City and Tourism's efforts to raise awareness of trails in the community like the Swan Creek-Athens Greenway, Wellness Park Walking Trail, Athens Historic Volksmarch, Beaty Historic District, Columns and Culture: Antebellum Trail and others that attract not only citizens to enjoy but visitors from around the country and world. "Visitors spend time walking and driving these trails in Athens and then pause to enjoy a meal downtown, stop into the shops, or drop into the Visitor's Center to learn more about the community what else there is to explore," says Cayce Lee of Athens-Limestone County Tourism. She continued, "We have people who have gotten off Interstate 65 to stretch their legs on the Swan Creek-Athens Greenway then ventured downtown to find our office and then explore. They share how the break from the road has turned into a great time exploring with plans to come back and stay to spend more time here. Sometimes these same folks have come back and said they're looking to move and we're at the top of their list because of the trails and their experience exploring Athens."
