KALB Celebrates Earth Day With Activities

Picture
On Saturday, April 27th, Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful will celebrate Earth Day by inviting the community to a day of fun and learning.  This day of activities offers something for everyone no matter what age, so bring the family and adult friends, too!

Guided Nature Walk
The day will begin with a Marbut Bend Trail Nature Walk lead by Mr. Damien Simbeck with TVA Natural Resource Management.  The trail is...

... located on Hwy. 99 in West Limestone.  Damien is a birding expert who is also very knowledgeable about the history of the trail and the myriad of wildlife that call the area home.  Come and enjoy a peaceful morning with Damien and learn more about our natural world.

Participants will meet at the trail head at 8:00 a.m.  It is suggested that walkers wear comfortable shoes, bring binoculars if available, and use sunscreen and/or insect repellent if needed.

Earth Day & Outdoor EXPO

The Earth Day & Outdoor EXPO creates excitement and fun while learning about our personal responsibilities in caring for our environment.

Thanks to American Leakless Company, our Presenting Earth Warrior Sponsor, every guest coming through the gates will receive a free gift while supplies last!  “American Leakless is a very good friend to KALB and supports several of our events, including our Earth Day & Outdoor EXPO,” said Lynne Hart, Executive Coordinator of KALB.  “For that, we are so very grateful!”  Friendship Church, Westrock, In’Tech Medical, Indorama Ventures, Clem Tire Co., Bank Independent, Redstone Federal Credit Union, Pepsi, News Courier, and Athens Now have joined with American Leakless in supporting this important event.

Because of generous sponsorships, KALB is able to continue to offer free admission including all shows and activities, free food and drinks, free door prize tickets, and more.  Although admission is free, KALB is asking for a $1.00 donation to help support future projects and programs.

This year activies will include:
  • Camp McDowell Outreach Programs – Raptors and Reptiles
  • Mr. Bond and The Science Guys
  • Tickled Pink Petting Zoo
  • Make-and-Take Crafts
  • $1/minute massages by HealthSource Chiropractic (all proceeds returned to KALB)
  • Jim Swanner and Rosie
  • Enjoy performances by the Athens Dulcimers
  • Facepainting by Beth Haney
  • Free Hot Dogs, Pepsi, and Popcorn
  • Peace, Love, and Animals – Adoptable Pets
  • MORE!

A list of scavenger hunt questions will be given to each attendee to encourage seeking answers to the questions to which they do not know the answers.  Finding the correct exhibitor to answer the questions will encourage students (and adults) to become environmental detectives.

Youth and adult-size t-Shirts with an Earth Day design will be on sale for $12 and $15 respectively.
