Patriotic Parties, Fireworks and More for the Fourth of July – Celebrate a Week of Independence

​The year was 1776, the thirteen colonies of the new world decried the unfair taxation and treatment by the English crown of its distant citizens and the lack of representation in the House of Parliament.  Goods of all sorts were taxed extremely.   Redcoats were allowed to take over the colonist home and billet without compensation or question.  There was no one to speak for the colonist – until...

... they rose up, drafted the Declaration of Independence and presented a unified front declaring the United States of America free of English rule.  The colonists were willing to fight for their freedom and the freedom of generations to come… and they did – at land and at sea – from the townships of thirteen original colonies to the mountains of Georgia.   The colonist won the freedom of our Nation with word, blood, and sacrifice.

As we prepare to celebrate our Nation’s independence and those who fought to establish it and those who have continued to fight to protect it – please pause to remember those who have paid for our freedom.

June 29, 2019 -- Larry Mitchell Memorial Youth Fishing Rodeo at Joe Wheeler State Park (4403 McLean Drive in Rogersville) from 8:00AM-11:00AM in celebration of National Marina Day.  Registration starts at 8:00AM with monetary donation of your choosing.  Weigh-in will be at 11:00AM at the Marina Pavilion.  Trophies for Biggest Fish and Largest Stringer in groups: 0-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years and 13-14 years. All proceeds benefit Larry Mitchell Memorial Scholarship awarded Spring 2020

July 2, 2019 -- Independence Day Celebration with the Voices of Mobile at Sardis Springs Baptist Church starting 7:00PM. Join the University of Mobile Voices of Mobile for one of their final performances under original founder and director, Roger Breland. Free and open to the public. Love offering to be accepted on behalf of the group. Show to be followed by homemade ice cream and fireworks.

July 3-4, 2019 – 4th of July with Joe Wheeler State Park (4403 McLean Drive in Rogersville) with Camper Decorating Contest on the Campground on July 3 with People’s Choice Voting.  July 4th at 3:30PM at the Lodge for Children’s Popsicle Eating Contest for Ages 0-1; 7:00PM at the Campground Country Store for Children’s Bike and Golf Car Parade; 7:30PM Announcement of Campsite Decoration Contest Winner at the Campground Country Store.  For more information 256-247-5461.

July 4, 2019 – Red, White & Boom! Athens Firework Show sponsored by the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association, City of Athens and Limestone County Commission.  Display after dark at the Athens Stadium (100 U.S. Highway 31N).  No seating in stadium; viewable from adjacent properties including Swan Creek Park, Central Church of Christ, Athens High School.  Bring lawn or camp chairs or blanket.  Please respect private property and public right a ways.

July 4, 2019 – Fourth of July Celebration with Central Church of Christ (320 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens) with cornhole, food, live music and great viewing of the Red, White & Boom Fireworks Show. Activities starting at 7:00PM.  Free  and open to the public.

July 4, 2019 --  Fourth of July with Cultivate Church Athens (Athens Plaza 100 U.S. Highway 31 in Athens)  with free Hot Dogs, Cotton Candy and Soft Drinks during the Red, White & Boom Firework Show.  Free and open to the public.

July 4, 2019 – Blanche Freedom Festival  at Blanche School (1649 Ardmore Highway in Taft, TN approximately 12 miles from Ardmore AL/TN on TN-110) from 4:00PM-10:00PM with games, food, music, door prizes, and firework show.  Free admission.

Jul 5, 2019 -- First Friday on the Porch at the Warten House B&B (121 North Jefferson Street in Athens) from 6:00PM-12:00AM.  Come see the progress on the home, enjoy live entertainment, BYOB and snacks to share.

Jul 5, 2019 – Heidi Burson Band Live at at Lucy’s BARge at Lucy’s Branch Marina (6049 Bay Village Drive in Athens) starting at 7:00PM with the sounds of Nashville Soul Music.  Food and drink specials.

Jul 5, 2019 – Trifecta Live at Hard Dock (3755 U.S. Highway 31N or midway on the TN River Causeway at Riverwalk Marina in Decatur/Tanner) from 8:30PM-12:30AM.  Food and drink specials.

July 5 & 6, 2019 -- Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival opens at 309 East Forrest Street (at the corner of Beaty and Forrest Street across from Athens Middle School) in Athens from 6:30-9:30PM. Tickets are $0.50 each, 1 ticket for each ride. Concessions available. Come try out the newest addition, The Scrambler!

July 6, 2019 – 13th Annual Elk River Boat Only Party just off the Elk River in Anderson Creek at the Jackson Camp/Pier (just north of the Elk River Bridge approximately 3000-3500 feet on the West Shore) with Kozmic Mama from 3:00PM-7:00PM.  Nearest boat launch – Lee-Hi Boat Ramp

July 6, 2019 – 4th Annual Bay Village Firework Show viewable at Lucy’s BARge at Lucy’s Branch Marina (6049 Bay Village Drive in Athens) or from your boat at Tennessee River Mile Marker 287 at sunset.  Amateur show hosted by local families, weather permitting, donations welcome. 

July 6, 2019 – July Cruise In on the Square in downtown Athens from 6:00PM-9:00PM.  No judging, just show and shine; enjoy the shops and eateries around the Square.

July 6, 2019 -- Retroactive live at Bishop's Westside Pub & Grill (Suite E, 12060 County Line Road in Madison) from 9:00PM-1:00PM with your faves from the 70s to the 2000s. Food and drink specials. Cover charge may apply.
