Athens State Hose Film Screening of "Green Book"Dateline: January 28, 2019, Athens, AL – In honor of Black History Month, Athens State University will be hosting a film screening of “Green Book” on Saturday, February 9 at 5:30 pm in McCandless Hall. This event is free and open to the public. The movie focuses on... ... Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class African American pianist, and his concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. As the two travel, they develop an unexpected bond as they confront racism and danger in an era of segregation.
The screening is sponsored by Athens State’s Student Government Association and the Livingston Concert Lecture Series.
