FESTIVIES... 5:00PM -- Limestone County, Ala. - Commission Tree Lighting on West Washington Street Side of the Courthouse Between the tree lighting and the arrival of the parade, First Presbyterian Church "on the Square" will have a Handbell Concert on the Sidewalk 6:00PM -- "I'll Be Home For Christmas" -- Athens Christmas Parade step off from Athens Middle School Athens North Pole Stroll is ready for your to stroll among the trees in Big Spring Memorial Park -- the lights come to life after dark Come early and enjoy a meal at one of our eateries around Athens. Some things we know - you might enjoy... -- The Broken Brush Studio LLC will be open for you to get gift certificates or to by a Take and Make Art Kit tonight -- Limestone Legends Billiards has a special with Soup or Chili and Grilled Cheese tonight -- Dub's Burgers will be open and ready for you from 4:30PM-6:30PM - or as long as the food last -- UG White just got a big shipment of gift items to peruse NOTE: -- Terranova's Athens will be closed tonight -- Inez’s Soul Food For Real will be closing at 3PM ROUTE: Starting at Athens Middle School 100 U.S. Highway 31N Parade will cross over U.S. Highway 31 causing temporary closure of the road. Please expect heavy traffic as crowds disburse. Please watch for pedestrians. Please respect private property. The parade will travel west on Hobbs Street past the police station to the City Hall/First United Methodist and turn left (south) onto North Jefferson Street and travel one block before turning left onto the Square On the Square - the parade will travel one block on Market Street then turn right (south) onto Marion Street for one block where the digital broadcast booth will catch the festivities, then right (west) again on to Washington Street for one block then turn left (south) back onto Jefferson Street at the First Presbyterian Church on the Square. From the intersection at Washington and Jefferson - the parade will travel south until the Athens-Limestone Public Library/Hometown-Fiesta Mexicana shopping center and disperse Please expect delays as crowds filter from the parade route area. Watch out for pedestrians, especially small children who may dart out suddenly.
