CALHOUN COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO HOST CALHOUNWORKS INITIATIVE FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON OCTOBER 3 IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAYCalhoun Community College will host its first “CalhounWorks” event for local high school students interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Aerospace Training Center (ATC) on the Decatur campus. The day is a spin-off to the annual... ... Manufacturing Day (October 6), which falls under the “Dream It. Do It.” statewide initiative. This event is designed to help change the perception of manufacturing careers and to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Local schools, colleges and industries across Alabama will come together in a collective effort to educate students on the current and modern manufacturing careers.
According to Kelli Morris, Director of Career Services & Cooperative Learning, the College expects close to 100 juniors and seniors from Decatur City and Morgan County schools to attend. Students will have an opportunity to network with potential employers and current Calhoun students working in industry. A discussion panel is scheduled which will feature employers from Nucor, Packing Corporation of America (PCA), and Toyota. Panelists will provide their insight and experiences with the evolving world of manufacturing. “Students attending this event, will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities during a program tour of Calhoun’s Industrial Maintenance, Welding, Design Drafting, Machine Tool, Aerospace and Process Technology departments.”, commented Morris. “We are extremely excited to host this event and engage those students that may be undecided about manufacturing and the exciting high-wage career opportunities available to those that choose that field.” Free lunch will be provided to students before departing for an optional industry tour hosted by Carpenter Technologies and Polaris Industries.
