Singing on the Square August 9th Concert Moves to New Athens Performing Art CenterThe final show of the season for Singing on the Square won’t be happening in downtown Athens due to projected road construction hazards and weather woes. That’s not dampening the spirits of the concert host Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association and sponsor Jimmy Smith Buick-GMC – they’re getting to move the concert to the newly christened, Athens Performing Art Center at Athens High School. The new location will be a ... ... showcase facility at the new Athens High School, a facility with hopes of hosting big names from Nashville and throughout the music industry. The new auditorium space recently hosted the inaugural event of the Athena Performing Art Series, Singer-Songwriter Evening, packing the nearly 400 seat complex. The future of the facility will include the crowning touch of a state-of-the-art sound system. The Summer Concert Series show on August 9th will give the community another chance to peek inside as the all-volunteer Athens State Community Band under the direction of Steven Porter take the stage. Everyone is invited to join the show kicking off at 7:00PM at the new high school located at 655 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens. No food or drinks are allowed in the facility. The concert is free and open to the public. The public is asked to enter the Athens High School grounds from U.S. Highway 31 at the traffic light and turn right and follow the perimeter road to the rear of Athens High School where the Athens Performing Art Center entrance is and the adjacent parking lots.
