Athens State Career Development Center Recognized with 2018 Achievement AwardAthens, AL – During the Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers (AACE) annual conference in Huntsville last month, the Career Development Center was presented an Achievement Award in the Education Program category for their workshop titled... ... “How to Make a Great First Impression with your Professional Introduction.” The workshop was held the week before the 2018 Spring Career Fair to assist students with their confidence and effectiveness in delivering their 30 second introductions to employers. In a recent survey answered by students, faculty, student organizations, and the Career Development Center staff, networking and maneuvering through introductions confidently and successfully was identified as a top weakness among respondents. The award-winning workshop was not only designed to assist students in these areas, but also to help better prepare them for other Athens State career development events such as “Meet the Firms” and employer sessions. This was the second in a series of workshops. The first, titled “Networking,” was held in spring of 2017 and focused on helping students grow their networking confidence. AACE is an organization for career development professionals and employers. Membership in this organization provides networking opportunities to benefit the state’s university students and their future employees, as well as provide professional development. The mission of the organization provides resources for industry and education to partner and promote a competent and productive workforce. Membership in 2017-18 included 26 universities and colleges as well as 12 employers located in the state of Alabama.
