Athens-Limestone Visitors Center Marks 10 Years of Community Service

Picture
The Athens-Limestone Visitors Center just marked its Diamond Anniversary in April - that's 10 years of serving the community, travellers, and tourist.    As stewards of Limestone County's tourism and travel industries...
... the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association, Inc. was incorporated shortly after the opening of the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center having separated from the Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce.

The former Athens Utilities Building at 100 North Beaty Street next to the Big Spring Memorial Park, also known as the Duck Pond  to locals, became home to the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center officially in April 2008 when an Open House was held.

The Athens-Limestone Visitor Center continues to host a variety of brochures for attractions and events in Limestone County as well as members of the Visit North Alabama travel group.   Guest from near and far - international travellers regularly visit Limestone County to appreciate the rich culture, heritage, and history that lives on - stop in to explore events, historic sites, trails and more.

In addition, the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center's meeting room has served as the backdrop to weddings, reception dinners, baby showers, anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, training sessions, concerts, events and more continuing its role of serving the community beyond its days as the Water Department and pumping station as well.  The unique space, formerly a garage, was renovated with warm woods and is backdropped by the luscious grounds and flowing fountains of Big Spring Memorial Park.  The space has seen generations pass through the doors of the meeting room to mark milestones since the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center opened in 2010.

Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association, Inc. purpose is to:
  • Encourage historical, educational, and promotional efforts that will interest tourist, historians, naturalist, students, storytellers, artist, musicians, sports event and conference.
  • Develop tourism and travel to Athens-Limestone Alabama.
  • Promote attractions, food, entertainment and events that occur within Limestone County Alabama.
