ACA TO HOST 78th NATIONAL ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF THE WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OF ALABAMA The Alabama Center for the Arts will be hosting the Watercolor Society of Alabama’s 78th National Annual Exhibition. Presented in the Main and Walking Galleries, the exhibition will be free and open to the public beginning on Sunday, June 2 and continue through Friday, August 2. An Award Ceremony and Opening Reception will be held on June 2 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. As one of the oldest major watercolor organizations in the nation, the Watercolor Society of Alabama (WSA) was founded in 1939 and has been... ... a vital influence in advancing the art of watercolor painting and enriching the cultural environment of Alabama citizens. The society sponsors two shows yearly, a national juried exhibition and a statewide juried showcase. The exhibition is held in a different location across the state each year, giving residents in communities throughout Alabama an opportunity to view the art collections. This year marks the second time that the ACA will host the exhibition. The Center also hosted the 75th Annual Exhibition in 2016. Artists from across the country submit entries for the national exhibition. Nationally known practicing, master artists serve as selection jurors to choose paintings to be exhibited, and winning paintings are chosen on site by nationally recognized awards judges. This year’s Selection Juror will be Laurin McCracken and the Awards Judge will be Keiko Tanabe. The Alabama Center for the Arts’s Main Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 am – 8 pm, and Friday 8 am - noon.
