Empty Bowls Luncheon Slated for Feb 8The Empty Bowls concept has been used and modified all over the country. The idea is to emphasize hunger issues in our community and support the agencies whose mission it is to address these issues. A simple meal of soup is prepared and ticketholders receive a handmade pottery bowl to remind them that someone’s bowl is empty. The Athens-Limestone County Empty Bowls luncheon, planned by... ... a committee from the community, is in its third year. The Potter’s Hand is a community pottery studio located at First Presbyterian Church on the square in Athens. It was this group of potters who began the project. Other potters from the area contribute to provide over 300 pottery items to be given away. Restaurants in the area provide a wide array of delicious soups for the luncheon. A silent auction will be held with items from potters and other local artists. Light musical entertainment and fellowship with friends and neighbors make a lovely way to spend your lunchtime. Proceeds from the project will go to Limestone County Churches Involved food bank and backpack projects like Full Tummy in Athens and Limestone County. Sponsors include Clem Tire, First Presbyterian Church, T&C Stamping, Steelcase, and Tripoint Solutions. Tickets are available from the offices at First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church as well as committee members. Committee Members: Emily Clem, Karan Baker, Jenni Sisk, Randi Harbin, Melanie Newton, Tere Richardson, Tavia Slaton, Barbara McKinnie, Julie McNeese, Donna Cotton. Please add me to your Empty Bowls email list! I try to support all of them in our area ((Lowe Mill, Winston County, Madison), but missed news of yours in Athens. I love Empty Bowls: Thank y'all for doing this! ~Debbie
