Marbut Bend Guided Walk Kicks Off Earth Day and Outdoor EXPO Celebration
a variety of exhibits featuring items for sale, hand-ons activities, games for children and adults plus amazing animal exhibits with Wings to Soar with their raptor display; Tennessee Valley Zoo with their mobile petting zoo; and Camp McDowell with reptiles of Alabama. This year, a tree care clinic joins the lineup of activities and presentations that are part of this free, family-friendly event.
One pre-festival tradition returns this year, a guided walk of Marbut Bend Trail with Damien Simbeck of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Natural Resource Management. Damien will lead the stroll on this handicap-accessible trail constructed by TVA and the Limestone County Commission and share his knowledge of wildlife - especially birds. The guided walk attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and insect repellent. The walk begins at 7:30AM at the trailhead just off Alabama 99 on the right past the Elk River Bridge before venturing over a pier-spanned Beaver pond, along the edge of woodlands, through a bit of prairie-like tall grass beset with sounds of birds, tree frogs, and the lapping of the Elk River's waters. Attendees can anticipate the walk to last until 9:00AM - with plenty of time to make it to Earth Day and Outdoor EXPO which starts at 10:00AM.
