3rd Annual Eli's Ride to Remember to Enjoy Scenic RouteThe annual remembrance ride for Eli Williams, a young Limestone countian who touched the heart of many as he battled a rare brain cancer, will take place August 15, 2020. Organizers Eli's Block Party Childhood Cancer Foundation have been monitoring the ongoing public health crisis, road construction and closures, and other factors and have created a plan to go forward with the ride in memory of Eli "The Eliminator" Williams. The Eli's Ride to Remember will roll-out at... ... 3:00PM from the Athens SportsPlex (1403 U.S. Highway 31 in Athens) for a scenic trip through Limestone and Lauderdale Counties. You'll find quite a few Mustang amid this group as Eli loved Mustang's and even had his own "Eliminator" Mustang that his dad drove for many Eli's Block Party events. All makes and models are welcome to join this approximately hour and half ride and reflect on the lives of those who have been lost to cancer. Be sure pack a picnic lunch for end of the ride at McFarland Park in Florence. If you'd like to the join the ride, roll in and line up starts at the Athens SportsPlex with roll out around 3:00PM and traveling west on East Elm Street (3.3 mi) and will turn right on AL-99 and traveling north (14.1 mi). The trip will continue with a right onto Persimmon Tree Road (2.9 mi) then turn left onto Bailey Road (0.6 mi) and continue onto Lauderdale Co-58 (1.0 mi) before journeying onto AL-64W (18.2 mi). The leisurely pace continues onto Lauderdale Co-364 (0.7 mi) with a left at Lauderdale Co-47 (6.6 mi) to Old Jackson Highway S (2.6 mi) and right onto Cox Creek Parkway (0.8 mi) straight on to AL-133N/Cox Creek Parkway (4.3 mi) before turning left onto AL-20E (4.7 mi) to head to McFarland Park Road (0.9 mi) with a right turn (0.3 mi). The procession will continue on McFarland Park Road (0.6 mi) to arrive at McFarland Park (200 James M Spain Drive in Florence). This is a rain or shine event.
