River Forecast Center Closely Monitoring the Storm and Proactively Lowering Levels

Picture
From the Tennessee Valley Authority:

Remnants of Hurricane Harvey are forecasted to reach the region this week bringing as much as 5 to 6 inches of rain, mainly in the West Tennessee and Northern Alabama areas. The River Forecast Center is closely monitoring the storm and is proactively...

...lowering some main stem Tennessee River lakes to the lower end of summer ranges to create additional water storage capacity. Those lakes being lowered include Guntersville, Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick, and Kentucky.

Depending on location and rainfall amounts, lake levels could rise quickly. Property owners should take appropriate measures to protect boats and other property that may be impacted by faster-than-normal river flows, excess debris, and potentially higher water levels.

Depending on the storm track, water releases from the upper Tennessee River dams and tributaries lakes will be reduced.

Extra caution should be taken in all river traffic and lake recreation.
