Decatur, AL – The Adult Education and Workforce Solutions departments at Calhoun Community College are once again collaborating to offer two free boot camps designed for individuals desiring to develop a sound foundation in the manufacturing and construction industries.  The next round of camps begin ...

... September 17, 2018, and will be held at Calhoun’s Decatur campus. Orientation for both is scheduled for Monday, September 10.

The Alabama Advanced Manufacturing Certification boot camp is a 10-week program designed for those looking to develop a solid foundation of manufacturing processes and production, safety, maintenance awareness, and lean manufacturing principles.  “Those enrolled in this program will learn skills which will improve their chances of being successfully employed in the manufacturing industry,” commented Courtney Taylor, Calhoun’s Director of Workforce Solutions.  According to Taylor, students in the program will also participate in the Ready to Work programs and WorkKeys testing at the college.

Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to test for the nationally-recognized Manufacturing Skills Standards Council Certified Production Technician (CLT) and the American Society for Quality Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification (CYSSB).  For more information or to register for the Alabama Advanced Manufacturing Certification boot camp, contact Houston Blackwood at 256/306-2664 or houston.blackwood@calhoun.edu

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum boot camp is a free 8-week intensive program designed to provide participants training on the basic skills needed to continue NCCER education in any craft area, receiving instruction in such areas as Basic Safety, Communications Skills and Introduction to Construction Drawings.

“NCCER is a nationally-recognized standardized credentialing program for jobs within the construction industry,” said Dana Wolfe, director for Adult Education at Calhoun.  “This NCCER core curriculum is a perquisite for all Level 1 craft curricula, including our Carpentry 1 program, which will be offered this fall at Calhoun, so now is the time for those interested in careers in these areas to take the first step and register for this free training,” Wolfe added.

In addition to the two boot camps, open registration continues for the Ready to Work program, which provides trainees the entry-level skills required for employment with most businesses and industries in Alabama. The training curriculum is set to standards cited by business and industry employers throughout the state, and the skills cited in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) Reports.

For more information or to register for the NCCER boot camp or the Ready to Work program, contact Wolfe at 256-306-2831 or dana.wolfe@calhoun.edu
