May Events

Below are some of the events that have been submitted for May.  This list is subject to change as more events are added so we invite to check back often to see what is going on in Athens and Limestone County.

​May 1 -- The Donnell House Showcase of Beautiful Tablescapes. 1:30pm - 4:00pm at the Donnell House at 601 South Clinton Street in Athens, Al.. Ticket only $10.00 and available at the door.  Light refreshments will be served.​

May 1 - 7, 2022 -- National Travel and Tourism Week was established in 1983 by President Reagan, National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is the annual salute to travel in America.  Join us this year as we celebrate Travel and Tourism's impact by spotlighting a different way travel matters each day to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being with the Power of Travel.

May 1 - 31, 2022 -- National Bike Month commemorates the healthy and family-friendly experience of cycling in the community and its benefits to the environment, health, mental health and the economy.

May 7, 2022 --  Coffee Call   Veterans of all wars and their families are invited for breakfast and fellowship from 8:00AM-9:30AM at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive (100 West Pryor Street in Athens).   256-771-7578

May 7, 2022 -- This year when the City of Athens Relay for Life Team kicks off the 11th Annual City of Athens Relay for Life Bass Fishing Tournament from safelight to 2 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor. Those interested in supporting efforts to “fish for a cure” can find a registration form online at www.athensal.us. Registration prior to the event is $100 per team with an optional $10 for Big Fish. Registration will be available the day of the event starting at 4 a.m.Cost will be $110 cash with an optional $10 for Big Fish.

May 7, 2022  – Play Outside Day  Families everywhere are encouraged to get outside the first Saturday of every month and play in public parks, enjoy trails, hit the waterways, explore greenspaces and just play!  Limestone County offers over 20 trails to explore including walking, cycling, horseback riding and kayaking – perfect for all ages.  For more information: 256-232-5411

May 7, 2022 -- May Cruise In on the Square at the Limestone County Courthouse Square (123 South Jefferson Street in Athens) starting at 6:00PM.  No judging, no trophies - just show and shine and enjoy the rides, shops, and restaurants.   ​Please leave parking on the northside of the Square (Village Pizza and Lucia's) for patrons.

May 7, 2022 -- ​Yesterdays Event Center. Featuring the showband “Showdown and Friends” with Special Guests. Saturday evenings, all tickets $25 each includes reserved seating, complete dinner, show, unlimited soft drinks, and free parking. Doors open 5pm, program including dinner 5:30pm, showtime 6:30pm, 90 minute show. E-mail reservations required in advance.

May 7-8, 2022 -- Historic Mooresville Art Festival 2022 in Mooresville, AL. will also be hosting their Spring Market that day. The event will be a one-of-a kind experience with curated artisan shopping from craftsmen and special learning events. You will be able to walk the streets and enjoy the historic town’s way of life.  More details to come.

May 7, 2022 - Perfect Game Baseball Mother's Day Celebration.  The Sports Plex in Athens on Highway 31. 

May 7, 2022 --  “Open Farm Day” at 1818 Farms in Mooresville from 10:00 am – 4:00 PM. During your visit you will be able to come inside the farm grounds, stroll through the Spring flowers and view the animals grazing in their paddocks. Fresh and dried flowers will be available for purchase at the Flower Truck that day as well as your favorite 1818 Farms products.

May 8, 2022 -- Mother's Day Observance -- Spend the day with Mom... dining, shopping, or enjoying the great outdoors.  Athens-Limestone's parks, trails, eateries, shops and boutiques are waiting to help you celebrate.   Plan your day ... VisitAthensAL.com/plan-your-trip

May 10, 2022 -- Senior Fun Day. Join us  at the Athens Activity Center, 912 W. Pryor Street from 9:00AM till 2:00PM for dancing, door prizes, refreshments, BINGO and a great time.  Sponsored by the Foundation on Aging and the Optimist Club of Athens,

May 16, 2022 --
Rodeo week kicks off with the Street Dance on the Limestone County Courthouse Square at 6 p.m. Tomcat and Bark the Dawg will provide the music. ​

May 16, 2022 --  AMVETS Mexican Dinner. From 5:30PM - 730PM 22769 Black Rd, in Athens

May 19, 2022 -- Ardmore Welcome Center - The Alabama Tourism Department-Welcome Center Program will be welcoming guests throughout the state to increase the awareness of the economic, social and cultural impact that tourism has on the local, regional and state-wide communities.
We invite our tourism partners to participate at each Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. (central standard time) by bringing special promotions, coupons, etc., and share in our hospitality. Open House celebrations will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CST)

May 19, 2022 -- Slack competition for team roping contestants and contestant overflow will take place at the arena located on Alabama Highway 99. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the competition begins at 9 a.m. Admission is $5.

​May 19, 2022-- Yesterdays Event Center. “Elvis Remembered” featuring Michael Dean. Lunch $15, show free with paid lunch, in case of a sell-out, a Friday show may be added (next day), E-mail reservations required in advance. Doors open 10:30am, program including lunch 11am, showtime 12noon, 1 hr show.

May 20, 2022 -- Singing on the Square with Brian Holder and the Outer Limits. Concert begins at 7pm till 9pm on the Courthouse Steps at the Downtown Square. Marion Street will be closed between Washington and Market to allow for guests to bring their own folding chair to sit in. Food trucks will be available as well as the local restaurants. Rain location will be at the Vietnam Veterans Building of America, @ 17915 West Elm Street. *PLEASE NOTE : THERE WILL BE NO PARKING ON THE CLOSED OFF PORTION OF MARION STREET DURING THE CONCERT.

May 20, 2022 -- The Special Needs Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the arena. This rodeo is for community individuals with special needs.

May 20-21, 2022 -- The 40th Annual Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo, hosted by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Rodeo, Inc.,  at the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena. Along with two competitive nights of rodeo competition, there are several family-friendly events the week leading up to the rodeo.

May 20 - 27, 2022 -- National Boating Safety Week   Athens-Limestone Tourism joins the National Weather Service and National Safe Boating Council in encouraging boaters of all ages to practice safe boating, use their personal flotation devices, and become aware of hazards on the water through special broadcast via the NOAA All Weather Alert System (NOAA Radio) or visiting weather.gov safe boating page.

May 27, 2022 --  Fridays After Five Rock n’ Roll Night – Rob Aldridge & the Proponents, a rock n’ roll band out of Muscle Shoals will perform from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. With two albums under their belts, there will be plenty of great original music to enjoy!

May 28-29, 2022 -- Super Southern Invitational.  The Sports Plex in Athens on Highway 31. 

May 30, 2022 -- Memorial Day Observance -- local governments, area agencies, attractions, restaurants and shops may be closed or have modified hours of operation in observance of this holiday.  Please call ahead to confirm availability and hours. 

May 30, 2022 -- Memorial Day Program with the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives at the Limestone County Event Center (114 West Pryor Street in Athens) starting at 11:00AM.    Key note speaker will be announced.    Free and open to the public
