The Athens 9/11 Heroes Run is held annually the Saturday before September 11th marking the loss of life and the service and sacrifice of first responders, military, and civilians lost on that tragic day and since in the War on Terrorism. This international effort to "Never Forget" is organized by local volunteers and attended by runners from around the world. The certified race route is lined with patriotic displays and cheering public in support of of the event and runners.
The monies of the race benefit local first responders as well as outreach efforts underway by the Travis Manion Foundation.
The race is held in cooperation with the Travis Manion Foundation - a salute to Travis Manion who asked the question, "If not me, then who" - a question that has come to represent the race and mission of the Foundation.
