September Events

Below are some of the events that have been scheduled for September.  This list is subject to change as more events are added so we invite to check back often to see what is going on in Athens and Limestone County.

Sep 1-15, 2022 -- Athens Storytelling Festival Early Bird Tickets  We’re moving our tent to the Athens State University Campus by Brown Hall. Don’t worry!  We’ll be an easy walk from the downtown square shops and restaurants we all enjoy. Tickets may be purchased on the website and at UG White Mercantile on the square in downtown Athens.  EARLY BIRD SPECIAL! Sep 3, 2022 -- The Trinity High School Alumni Reunion.  9:00 am Parade will begin from Westview St to downtown Athens followed by a picnic from Noon-3 pm at Jimmy W. Gill on Hine St. 

Sep 3, 2022 -- Run Like A Boss 5K Run/Walk 7:00AM. 27 Old U.S. 31 North. Tickets starting at $25.00. A benefit Run/Walk to bring awareness and support to those affected by cancer. We will have the race both in-person and virtually. Sep 9, 2022 - Haunt Walks Tickets on sale  Save the Date for Haunt Walks: October 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 & 27. Tickets: $15.00 each for ages 12 and up and 11 & under $10.00 each. Wagon Tours $25 each. To see the schedule visit the Haunt Walks Page for this annual fundraiser that strolls through the dark history of Athens benefiting Athens-Limestone County Tourism and its programs.

Sep 10, 2022 -- The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to honor the heroes of 9/11 and those who've served our nations since.​The public is encouraged to line the route decked out in red, white, and blue or decorate their businesses and homes along the route and cheer on the runners. Sep 10, 2022 -- Superhero Fun Day and Family Expo in Big Spring Memorial Park (100 North Beaty Street in Athens) with Eli's Block Party from 10:00AM-4:00PM. Don your favorite superhero outfit, t-shirt or make-up your own for this special day to raise awareness of childhood cancer.  Parade, activities, vendors, fun run, music and more are packed into the day. Sep 10, 2022 -- The Rustic Willow Market Day  10:00am - 4:00pm 29930 Ardmore Ave, Ardmore, AL 

Sep 15 - Oct 15 -- National Hispanic Heritage Month. The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

Sep 15, 2022 -- 10th Annual Foundation for Mental Health Golf Tournament at Canebrake Club of Athens (23015 Founders Circle in Athens) from 11:30AM-5:00PM.  Individual player ($165.00) and teams ($660.00 foursome) welcome to enjoy the lunch, beverages and golf.  For more information or to register:  www.mhcnca.org/golf

​Sep 17, 2022 -- Celebrating The Art of the Host. Stop in Athens Florist & Gifts, 105 S. Clinton St. in Athens, AL anytime between 10:00 am - 2:00 pm to see Fall Tablescapes and Floral Designs. Sep 17, 2022 -- Hobbs Camp 768 hosting C.E.R.T. training in Athens starting at 9:00 am. $10 to cover lunch, class and supplies. Email camp768@alscv.org for more information.  


Sep 17, 2022 --Annual Trail of Tears Motorcycle Commemoration This annual event commemorates the forced marches of the Native Americans including the Cherokee from their tribal lands in the east to the lands of the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) from 1838-1839.  Learn more with the National Park Service    Local governments, area agencies, attractions, restaurants and shops may be closed or have modified hours of operation in observance of this holiday.  Please call ahead to confirm availability and hours. 

Sep 17, 2022 -- 28th Annual Trail of Tears AL-TN Motorcycle Commemorative Ride This ride follows US 72 across northern Alabama from Bridgeport to Waterloo with a lunch stop celebration at Redstone Harley Davidson near Huntsville. The route leaves Bridgeport, AL at 8:00 am, to Redstone Harley-Davidson in Madison, AL for a 10:30am-Noon lunch stop; then to Waterloo, AL (official end of ride approx 2:30 pm). No reservation or fee required, Rain or Shine.  For more information: https://trail-of-tears.webflow.io/the-ride/this-years-ride

Sep 17, 2022 -- Annual Trail of Tears Pit Stop Party with Redstone Harley-Davidson (15100 AL-20 or Exit 3 on I-565 at Greenbrier in Madison) from 8:00AM-12:00PM.   Enjoy music, Food, giveaways and the company of fellow motorcyclist as everyone awaits the arrival of the AL-TN Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride for lunch followed by kickstands up at 12:00PM and the continuance of the ride up Mooresville Road to U.S. Highway 72 through Athens-Limestone to Waterloo, AL.

Sep 17, 2022 -- Ardmore Glow 5K Run sponsored by Studio H Dance Company 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Sep 22, 2022 -- Book Signing by Georgina Cross at Athens Limestone Public Library 6:00 pm. Georgina Cross's new thriller "The Niece" will be available for purchase on the night.

Sep 23-24, 2022 -- Elkton Police Department Rodeo 2022  There will be food & fun for the entire family! Gates open at 5:30 p.m. each night, show starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12, and ages 5 & under free. Located at Elkton City Park: 370 Baugh Road. Monies benefit the Elkton Police Department and its programs. Come see funny man & barrel clown Johnny Allen as Brian House Bucking Bulls presents: Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Saddle Bronc Riding, Team Calf Roping. 

Sep 24 2022 -- Sons of Confederate Veterans Hosts 3rd Annual Commemoration of the 1864 Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at the site of the battle near Elkmont, AL. Historians will be at the site to tell the story of the battle and men who fought it to mark the anniversary. Free and open to the public. Sep 25 2022 -- Music for Mission 4:00-6:00 pm. Free Country & Gospel Music by Matt Prater Band. Snacks and Fellowship. First Presbyterian Church on the Square. 303 W. Washington St. Athens. Donations accepted for Family Resource Center.

Sep 2022 - Oct 2022 -- Athens North Pole Tree Sponsorship open... help make this community event held annual in Big Spring Memorial Park in the month of December happen by sponsoring a tree for your business, church, group, family or non-profit to decorate.  Don't want to decorate?  Non-profits in the area are looking for sponsors and they'll handle the decorating.   For more information stop by the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center 100 North Beaty Street in Athens from 8:00AM-4:30PM any Monday-Friday (except holidays) or call 256-232-5411.

Sep 29, 2022 -- Book Signing by Mike Blakely 6:00 pm at the Athens Limestone Public Library. Mike's book "Alabama's Cowboy Sheriff - Everything Gonna be Alright" will be available for purchase on the night.

Sep 30, 2022 -- The Lester Haunted Hospital kicks off their haunting season 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Continues every Friday and Saturday nights in October. www.thelesterhauntedhospital.com
