September Events

Below are some of the events that have been scheduled for September.  This list is subject to change as more events are added so we invite to check back often to see what is going on in Athens and Limestone County.

Sep 2022 -- Athens Storytelling Festival Early Bird Tickets go on sale at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center (100 North Beaty Street in Athens) from 8:30AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday.  Cash or Check.  For more information: AthensStorytellingFestival.com

Sep 2022 - Haunt Walks Tickets on sale at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center (100 North Beaty Street in Athens) from 8:30AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday.  Tickets: $10.00 each for ages 13 and up and 12 & under $5.00 each - cash or check. Limited to 30 participants per tour.   To see the schedule visit the Haunt Walks Page for this annual fundraiser that strolls through the dark history of Athens benefiting Athens-Limestone County Tourism and its programs.

Sep 2022 - Oct 2022 -- Athens North Pole Tree Sponsorship open... help make this community event held annual in Big Spring Memorial Park in the month of December happen by sponsoring a tree for your business, church, group, family or non-profit to decorate.  Don't want to decorate?  Non-profits in the area are looking for sponsors and they'll handle the decorating.   For more information stop by the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center 100 North Beaty Street in Athens from 8:00AM-4:30PM any Monday-Friday (except holidays) or call 256-232-5411.

​Sep 2022 -- 8th Annual Run Like A Boss 5K Race - In-person & Virtual for an at-your-own-pace run/walk of 3.1 miles at the old Athens Recreation Center (270 U.S. 31N in Athens). ​Sep 2022 -- Elkmont Lions Club Dove Shoot at Hobbs Farm (26229 Veto Road in Elkmont).  Permits go on sale TBA at 12:00PM at TBA for $30.00 per individual. Sep 2022 -- Elkton Police Department Rodeo 2022 at the Elkton City Park (545 Baugh Road in Elkton TN) from 7:30PM-9:30PM each night.  The gates will open at 6:00 p.m. each night with the event beginning by 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 for children 6-12, FREE for children 5 & under.  Monies benefit the Elkton Police Department and its programs.

Sep 2022 -- Elkton Charity Car Show benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital brings a variety of makes, models, and customs together at the show grounds (142 Baugh Road in Elkton TN).
 
​Sep 2022 -- Crystal Cup Golf Tournament with Athens-Limestone Hospital at Canebrake Club (23015 Founders Circle in Athens) with morning flight at 8:00AM and afternoon flight at 1:00PM.  4-Man Scramble: $850.00. For more information: 256-233-9557

Sep 2022 -- 9/11 Heroes Run - Athens in-person and virtually.  The in-person race will start at the Limestone County Courthouse (200 West Washington Street in Athens) at 7:00AM.  Runners, ruckers, and walkers will wind through the scenic streets of Athens as they remember the fallen of 9/11 and those who have fought the wars since.  The public is encouraged to line the route decked out in red, white, and blue or decorate their businesses and homes along the route and cheer on the runners.  TravisManion.org

Sep 2022 -- Annual Duck & Run 5K start and finish in Big Spring Memorial Park (125 East Street in Athens) starting at 7:00AM. Join Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful for this annual fundraiser run through scenic Athens. Proceeds benefit Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful. Early registration $25 through Sept 11, 2021.  Late/Race Day registration starting at 5:45AM is $30.  For more information or registration: TBA

Sep 2022 -- Limestone County NAACP Educational Golf Classic at Southern Gayle Golf Course (22230 Mooresville Road in Athens) with registration at 7:00AM and Tee Off  8:00AM for a Two-man scramble.  Team: $120.00; Individual: $60.00 - fee includes green and cart fees. Prizes for closest to the pin; longest drive; door prizes and gift cards.

Sep 2022 -- Superhero Fun Day and Family Expo in Big Spring Memorial Park (100 North Beaty Street in Athens) with Eli's Block Party from 10:00AM-4:00PM.  Don your favorite superhero outfit, t-shirt or make-up your own for this special day to raise awareness of childhood cancer.  Activities, vendors, fun run, music and more are packed into the day.  elisblockparty.org

​Sep 2022 -- Annual Fish Fry and Gun Raffle with the Disabled Veterans of America James L Daniels AL Chapter 51 at the post (25396 Airport Road in Athens) from 11:00AM-2:30PM.  Enjoy a fresh catfish plate with fixins', drink of your choice, and a sweet dessert to follow for $TBA.  Gun Raffle for TBA.  Raffle tickets are $20.00 each or 6 for $100.00 with 500 tickets total to be sold. Sep 2022 -- Annual Dog Wash Fundraiser with Athens-Limestone Rescue Square (1401 Freeman Avenue in Athens) from TBA each day in memory of 9-11 "Lest We Forget".  Premium Bath - #1 All Systems Super Cleaning & Conditioning Shampoo Bath, Ear Clean, Nail Dremel, Neat Up, Blowout, and Brush for $TBA; Standard Bath with Dawn Soap Bath, Nail Clip, Ear Clean and Brush for $TBA; and Microchipping for $$TBA.  Dogs must be leashed at all times; no aggressive dogs.  Donations receipts are tax-deductible.  Monies support operations and programs of the Rescue Squad.   For more information: Andrew Nicholas 256-651-0917

Sep 2022 -- Dove Shoot with the Piney Chapel Fire and Rescue Department at location TBA and with gates open at 4:30AM.  Reserve spots still available for 4 hunters including 4 meals is TBA plus TBA for the same spot Sunday.  Regular passes will be available at the gate the day of event; TBA for ages 11 & up; TBA for ages 10 & under.  For more information: Assistant Chief Chris Teeples 256-998-0194

Sep 2022 --Annual Trail of Tears Motorcycle Commemoration This annual event commemorates the forced marches of the Native Americans including the Cherokee from their tribal lands in the east to the lands of the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) from 1838-1839.  Learn more with the National Park Service    Local governments, area agencies, attractions, restaurants and shops may be closed or have modified hours of operation in observance of this holiday.  Please call ahead to confirm availability and hours. 

Sep 2022 -- Annual Trail of Tears AL-TN Motorcycle Commemorative Ride from Bridgeport, TN (Lineup at 7:00AM, Kickstand Up at 8:00AM CDT)to Redstone Harley-Davidson (15100 AL-20 in Madison) for lunch (Kickstand up at 12:00PM CDT) to Waterloo, AL (Arrive 3:00PM CDT), this motorcycle ride invites riders to join in and mark the passage of the Cherokee from their native land to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma).  No reservation or fee required, Rain or Shine.  For more information: www.al-tn-trailoftears.net

Sep 2022 -- Annual Trail of Tears Pit Stop Party with Redstone Harley-Davidson (15100 AL-20 or Exit 3 on I-565 at Greenbrier in Madison) from 8:00AM-12:00PM.   Enjoy music, Food, giveaways and the company of fellow motorcyclist as everyone awaits the arrival of the AL-TN Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride for lunch followed by kickstands up at 12:00PM and the continuance of the ride up Mooresville Road to U.S. Highway 72 through Athens-Limestone to Waterloo, AL.

​Sep 2022 -- Constitution Day Celebration with John Wade Keyes Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in McCandless Hall of Athens State University (300 North Beaty Street in Athens) starting at 1:00PM.  Guest Speaker will be Tom Walker, Founder and President of American Village in Montevallo, AL.  Free and open to the public.

Sep 2022 -- Safety Day with Lowe's of Athens (1109 U.S. Highway 72E in Athens) with fun for the whole family from 10:00AM-1:00PM with vehicles from the Fire Department, Search and Rescue, Sheriff and Police Departments plus games, prizes and food.  Free and open to the public.   For more information: 256-771-5600

Sep 2022 -- Vietnam Veterans Spaghetti Lunch (17915 W Elm St, Athens). Lunch is 11:00AM-1:00PM meal includes Spaghetti, Texas toast, salad or coleslaw, dessert and a beverage for $8.00. Eat in or take out.  All proceeds go to High School Scholarship. Delivery available within the City Limits.

​Sep 2022 -- Alumni Golf Classic with the Athens State University Alumni Association at Canebrake Club (23015 Founders Circle in Athens) from 10:00AM-6:00PM benefiting student scholarships. The 4-person scramble with Mulligan and Power-drive options available.  10:00AM-Lunch & Check-in; 11:00AM-Shotgun Start; and 5:00PM (approximately) Dinner and Prizes.  Rain date: TBA  4-person Team: $800.00; Individual: $200.00. Sep 2022 -- Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle Commemoration on the Richard Martin Rails to Trail (Railroad Street in Elkmont) from 9:00AM-1:00PM.  Historians will be at the site to tell the story of the battle and men who fought it to mark the anniversary.  Hike or bike south from downtown Elkmont for 1.2 miles or 2.2 miles north from the Hays Mill Parking lot.  Speakers TBA Presentations every half hour.  Free and open to the public.

Sep 2022 -- Sporting Clay Tournament with Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce at Old South Clays (27246 Wooley Springs Road in Athens) starting at 8:00AM. Registration open at 7:30AM.  Make a day of team building or bring your buddies for bragging rights for a day of clay shooting suitable for all skill levels. Lunch and Awards afterward. Door prizes and raffles. 4-Man teams: $550.00.  Registration deadline: TBA.  For more information: 256-232-2600

Sep 2022 -- East Limestone Homecoming Parade & Pep Rally starting at 6:00PM from the Oak Leaf Subdivision on McLemore Circle traveling north on East Limestone Road, pass in front of the East Limestone High School (15641 East Limestone Road in Athens) and will end at tthe school with a community pep rally on the football field.

​Sep 2022 -- Annual Clements Stampede at Clements High School (7730 U.S Highway 72 in Athens) starting at 4:30PM.  Come show your support for the Clements Colts and tailgate; recognize the athletes; food trucks - Happi Pappi Beignets, Beer Belly BBQ, and Kona Ice; CHS Band Burgers & Dogs; and Bon Fire to celebrate homecoming.   Commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Sep 2022 -- County Line Road Concert Series: TBA at Heritage Church (29768 Huntsville-Brownsferry Road in Madison) starting at 6:00PM. Food trucks, bands, and fun for the kids. Bring your chair. Free admission.

Sep 2022 -- Ask A Master Gardener at the Athens-Limestone Public Library (603 South Jefferson Street in Athens) from 10:15AM-2:15PM with the Athens-Limestone Master Gardeners. For more information about the Master Gardeners, you can contact them at limestonemg@yahoo.com.

Sep 2022 -- Annual Foundation for Mental Health Golf Tournament at Canebrake Club of Athens (23015 Founders Circle in Athens) from 11:30AM-5:00PM.  Individual player ($150.00) and teams ($600.00 foursome) welcome to enjoy the lunch, beverages and golf.  For more information or to register:  www.mhcnca.org/golf

Sep 2022 -- Annual Olde American Thyme Primitive, Antique and Vintage Show at Ardmore High School (30285 Ardmore Avenue in Admore, AL from 9:00AM-5:00PM with vendors offering premium primitive pieces.  Entrance fee charged; benefits the Ardmore High School Band.

Sep 2022 -- The Park After Dark Cruise-In at Ardmore Park (Park Avenue in Ardmore, AL) from 5:00PM-9:00PM.  $20.00 per all make/model registration with chances at cash prizes; spectators free.  Family-friendly, food trucks, and more.  Proceeds benefit local charities.

Sep 2022 -- Doomsday Haunt  (U.S. Highway 72E in Athens) with ticket sales from 7:00PM-11:00PM.  More details to come.  For more information: doomsdayhaunt.com

Sep 15, 2022 -- Senior Lunch Matinee at Yesterdays  Event Center. “Elvis Remembered” featuring Michael Dean.  $15.00 per person -- includes meal and and show. Individuals and Groups welcome.
