Listerhill Donates $25,000 To Help Fund Athens State Reading and Literacy Lab
Athens State University’s Reading and Literacy Lab will be getting a much- needed upgrade thanks to a $25,000 donation from Listerhill Credit Union. Listerhill’s donation will allow for the purchase and provision of a smart board, books, software, games, journals, assessment tools, technology, and site visits so the Lab can better prepare pre-service teachers for the classroom.
Calhoun’s Lineworker Program Makes History with First Female Graduates
In April 2021, Calhoun Community College received a grant from The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham to afford females the opportunity to participate in the College’s Pre-Apprentice Lineworker Program. On Friday, August 13, 8:00 am, Calhoun will graduate the first female to complete the program under the women’s recruiting initiative. The ceremony will also feature a Lineworker Rodeo, which will be held at the pole yard across from Calhoun’s Decatur Campus at the intersection of Highway 31 North and Sandy Road.

Alabama’s sandhill crane season returns for 2021-2022 with 400 permit holders having the opportunity to hunt sandhill cranes in north Alabama. Registration for the permits opens on September 8, 2021. The 2021-2022 season is split in two segments. The first segment runs from December 3 to January 9. The second segment runs from January 17-31.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (ADCNR) Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) provides several youth dove hunt opportunities throughout the state each fall. A simple hunting setup combined with a fun, family-friendly atmosphere makes WFF’s youth dove hunts an ideal way to introduce young people to the outdoors.
