ALDOT: US-72 & I-65 Lane Notice

​U.S. 72 turn lanes at I-65 to be restriped

The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect overnight lane closures for restriping at the U.S. 72 bridge over Interstate 65 in Athens next week, weather permitting.

The striping changes will include extending left turn lanes to provide additional queuing space and improve traffic flow approaching the I-65 interchange.

Work will be performed nightly, beginning about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 23. All lanes should reopen by about 6 a.m. each morning. ALDOT anticipates all work being complete by 6 a.m. Friday, June 28.
