Below are some of the events that have been submitted for July. This list is subject to change as more events are added so we invite to check back often to see what is going on in Athens and Limestone County.
Jul 2, 2022 – Play Outside Day Families everywhere are encouraged to get outside the first Saturday of every month and play in public parks, enjoy trails, hit the waterways, explore greenspaces and just play! Limestone County offers over 20 trails to explore including walking, cycling, horseback riding and kayaking – perfect for all ages. For more information: 256-232-5411

Viewable from adjacent properties including Central Church of Christ, Athens Shopping Center, Athens High School and Swan Creek Park. Please respect private property and traffic right of ways. Please remain in your vehicles and enjoy the firework show after dark (approximately 9:00PM) provided by Athens-Limestone County Tourism, Athens Gas Department - An 811, Call Before You Dig Partner and Limestone County Commission. July 7 – July 9, Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival 2022– The Carnival begins Thursday, July 7 – July 9 on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights from 6:30 – 9:30. They have 10 rides that are best suited for kids ages 2-10 years. Free admission to the carnival and each ride is just a 50¢ ticket. They have bingo and delicious concessions on-site such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chicken fries, funnel cakes, bottled water, and soft drinks. Also served are cotton candy, sno cones, and other crowd favorites. The Athens Lions Club property is located at 309 E Forrest St. in Athens, AL, it’s across from the former Athens Elementary School. Free parking!

July 15, 2022 -- Singing on the Square with TomCat and Bark the Dawg. Concert begins at 7pm till 9pm on the Courthouse Steps at the Downtown Square. This is a FREE event however, donations are encouraged! Marion Street will be closed between Washington and Market to allow for guests to bring their own folding chair to sit in.
July 16, 2022 -- Mud Volley Volleyball. Registration is open for the County for a Cure Relay for Life Team’s Mud Volleyball Tournament. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Swan Creek Park on U.S. 31 in Athens. All proceeds from this tournament will benefit the American Cancer Society. Not only will the winner of the tournament take home the prized “Golden Pig Trophy” they will also take-home prize money. Teams can register online at www.active.com or by calling 256-214-0041. Registration for the tournament will end July 7, 2022. Those teams that are registered by June 26, 2022, will receive a free t-shirt. All teams must have a minimum of eight players with two females on the playing court during play. The cost to play is $20 a player.

July 28 - Athens State University Bicentennial Celebration Concert on the Square - Join us in Downtown Athens for “Concert on the Square,” a special commemoration of Athens State University’s bicentennial!
7:00 pm – Concert Opener, featuring Iron Horse
8:00 pm – Concert Headliner, featuring Collin Raye
This concert, which will be held on the Courthouse Square, is FREE and open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs and join us! (No registration, sign-up, or tickets are required.)

Jul 2022 -- Will Haney Foundation Race of Champion 5K "Night Edition" at Athens Stadium (100 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens) starting at 8:00PM. Join the race in person or virtually and walk or run to race funds for the Will Haney Foundation. The race course is USTAF distance Certified and is multi-surface, high school stadium track, asphalt, fine gravel running trail, and boardwalk. A multi-surface shoe is suggested. Jul 2022 -- Bloom Stroll and Bouquet Workshop with 1818 Farms (24889 Lauderdale Street in Mooresville) from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Spend a late afternoon touring 1818 Farms' gardens where Natasha will identify her favorite varieties of heirloom flowers and herbs. Workshop participants will learn tips for planting, growing and seed saving tips as well as the best methods for cutting flowers when gathering them for arrangements. Following the garden tour, participants will gather at the 1818 Farms pavilion for a hands-on workshop with a selection of fresh cut flowers and herbs gathered that morning at the farm. Jul 2022 -- Will Haney Foundation Race of Champion 5K "Night Edition" at Athens Stadium (100 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens) starting at 8:00PM. Join the race in person or virtually and walk or run to race funds for the Will Haney Foundation. The race course is USTAF distance Certified and is multi-surface, high school stadium track, asphalt, fine gravel running trail, and boardwalk. A multi-surface shoe is suggested. Jul 2022 -- Bloom Stroll and Bouquet Workshop with 1818 Farms (24889 Lauderdale Street in Mooresville) from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Spend a late afternoon touring 1818 Farms' gardens where Natasha will identify her favorite varieties of heirloom flowers and herbs. Workshop participants will learn tips for planting, growing and seed saving tips as well as the best methods for cutting flowers when gathering them for arrangements. Following the garden tour, participants will gather at the 1818 Farms pavilion for a hands-on workshop with a selection of fresh cut flowers and herbs gathered that morning at the farm.
