August Events

Below are some of the events that have been submitted for August.  This list is subject to change as more events are added so we invite to check back often to see what is going on in Athens and Limestone County.

August 5, 2022 -- Singing on the Square with Randy Waller and Company. Concert begins at 7pm till 9pm on the Courthouse Steps at the Downtown Square. This is a FREE event. Marion Street will be closed between Washington and Market to allow for guests to bring their own folding chair to sit in.

Aug 5 and 6 -- Piney Chapel American Farm Heritage Days  at at the Show Grounds (TBA) with gates open at 7:00AM until ?.  All makes, models and years of tractor and farm equipment will be on display and demonstrated.  Friday features a tractor ride starting at 10:00AM with registration at 9:00AM-9:30AM.  Kids will enjoy activities including a Pedal Pull Competition.  Get revved up with the Parade of Power then enjoy the Fast Crank Competitions, Slow Races, Chain in the box and more.  Fish Fry on Friday at 5:00PM with live music at 5:30PM.  Concessions and vendors too.  Admission is $5.00 per car; $5.00 registration for golf carts and UTV's.  Info: Mike Hodges 256-206-5926; Allen Dement 256-431-0619; Matt Thomas 256-497-6607; Steve Garner 334-750-2545; Brianne Hargrove 256-431-2880

Aug 6, 2022 - 8:00 am - Noon - Walk for Your Cause Hosted by Athens City and Let's Move.
Walk 8-10am $10 per person. Blood Drive 8-Noon, Largest Electric Slide Line Dance Noon, Free haircuts & school supplies while they last. Food Trucks. 21821 Sportsplex Loop Athens AL 35611.

Aug 6, 2022 -- Coffee Call   Veterans of all wars and their families are invited for breakfast and fellowship from 8:00AM-9:30AM at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive (100 West Pryor Street in Athens).   256-771-7578

Aug 6, 2022 -- 9-Noon - Back 2 School Career Day In The Park Festival. Wellness Park, 940 W. Washington St., Athens, Al 35611, In addition to school supplies and other giveaways, there will be free food, festivities and lots of family fun. The Labor and Industry Department seeks to bridge the gap between education, skills and the workforce. During this event, there will be information to jump start careers relative to academics and students. All are invited.

Aug 6, 2022 -- ​Yesterdays Event Center. “60’s Beach Party” Early Dinner Show. Featuring “The DJ’s & Friends”  Saturday evenings, all tickets $25 each includes reserved seating, complete dinner, show, unlimited soft drinks, and free parking. Doors open 5pm, program including dinner 5:30pm, showtime 6:30pm, 90 minute show. E-mail reservations required in advance.

Aug 6, 2022  – Play Outside Day  Families everywhere are encouraged to get outside the first Saturday of every month and play in public parks, enjoy trails, hit the waterways, explore greenspaces and just play!  Limestone County offers over 20 trails to explore including walking, cycling, horseback riding and kayaking – perfect for all ages.  For more information: 256-232-5411

Aug 10, 2022 - Inaugural Job Fair / Resource Expo - Noon - 6:00 pm. Hosted by Athens State University in their Sandridge Ballroom. Applications will be received by all companies. Some on the spot interviews. FREE Admission. Parking on Hobbs Street. 


Aug 13, 2022 -- ​Athens Saturday Market is a state-certified farmers market. Enjoy fresh produce, baked goods, music, art, and crafts at the Green Street pavilion (409 West Green Street in Athens) from 8:00AM to 12:00PM.  athensmainstreet.org

Annual Yard Sale Fundraiser with Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad 
Aug 12th-13th – 1401 Freeman Avenue, Athens. Come shop a variety of items - household, furniture, and more. Proceeds benefit the rescue squad. For more information, call 256-431-7734

Aug 18, 2022 -- Yesterdays Senior Lunch Matinee Southern Splendor Chorus.  $15.00 per person -- includes meal and and show. Individuals and Groups welcome. Bus parking available. Aug 20,  2022 -- Ardmore Crape Myrtle Festival at John Barnes Park (Hamlett Street in Ardmore, TN) from 9:00AM-4:00PM with arts and crafts and small business vendors, crape myrtle sale, food trucks, entertainment and more.  More info here

Aug 20, 2022 -- Swing Through 5K at Calhoun Community College (6250 U.S. Highway 31S in Tanner, AL) benefiting the Physical Therapy Program on a flat, fast, and certified course. Race beings at 8:00AM in front of the Allied Health Building on the north end of campus. Race Day Registration from 6:30AM-7:30AM at the Calhoun Community College Health Science Building.

Aug 25, 2022 -- Swamp John's Dinner 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Hosted by the Hobbs Camp 768, Sons of Confederate Veterans, at the Sheriff's Rodeo Arena. $13 per plate. Contact Daveen Stanford for more information.

Aug 27, 2022 -- Annual Elkmont Car Show at Elkmont High School (204 Evans Avenue in Elkmont) from 10:00AM-2:00PM featuring classic muscles, hot rods, rat rods, antique cars, custom trucks and motorcycles with trophies, plaques, and money awards. Concession, door prizes, vendors and live music - so bring your camp chairs.  Vehicles registration: $20.00 fee includes admit for 2 people. Spectators are $5.00 each with ages 10 and under enjoying free admission. For more information: Mike Ikard 256-431-0542

Aug 30, 2022 -- Book Signing by Author Daco Auffenorde for her latest thriller "The Forgotten Girl". 6:00 pm. Hosted by the Athens Limestone Public Library. Alabama native Daco Auffenorde is an award winning author of thrillers and suspense. Books are available for purchase at the event or by preorder at alcpl.org/events.
