Dr. General C. Johnson
Calhoun Community College will host its first community-wide Student Diversity Symposium on Thursday, September 28. The symposium will be held in two sessions. The morning session will begin at 11:00 a.m., room 156, in the Math, Science & Administration building on the Decatur campus and the evening session will begin at...
...  5:30 p.m., in the Student Center on the Huntsville campus.

Dr. General Johnson, Director of TRIO Student Support Services at Portland Community College (PCC) Cascade, will be the featured speaker for the symposium. A native of Washington, DC, Dr. Johnson completed his B.S. degree in Biology/Chemistry and Mathematics with honors at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. His formal training also includes Ph.D. studies in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Biophysics and Neuroscience from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio and an N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine) from National University of Natural Medicine where he performed clinical rotations and internships at National Centers for Natural Health and Outside In Clinic, in Portland, Oregon. He is nearing completion of a Doctoral Program in Leadership for Change at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California with a concentration in Community College Leadership.

“We are very excited about the symposium, as this is the first time we have ever brought in a nationally recognized speaker for such an event,” commented Dr. Jim Klauber, Calhoun President. “We are hoping that all male students of color from our local area colleges and universities will attend. We are also encouraging all minority male student leaders in our community to support this very important initiative.” The topic for the symposium will be, “How can minority male students succeed in college and how they can connect with other students, faculty/staff member as well as utilizing the available resources offered to them at their perspective colleges.”

If you have any student leaders who have talent that they would like to display at the symposium, please contact Mr. Ernest Williams, Black Student Alliance sponsor at 256-306-2742.
