Hit the Waters and Celebrate National Boating and Fishing Week Jun 2-10

National Fishing and Boating Week is a great time to hit the water with family and friends.  Boating and fishing is a great way to relieve stress, connect with the friends, bond with the family and have an impact on our waterways and fish populations.

You may not know it...
... but participation in fishing and boating actually helps fund efforts to conserve our natural waterways. A portion of all fishing tackle and license sales, as well as boat supply and registration sales, fund the conservation and preservation of our nation's waterways through a program called the Sport Fish Restoration Program.

There are some great events coming up during the National Boating and Fishing Week that can help you celebrate by hitting the water.

June 2nd, the Limestone County Sportsman's Club invites children from age 5-15 to join them for their Kids' Fishing Rodeo at the Club Lake on Kennedy Road just north of the Oakdale and Pepper Road intersection from 9:00AM-12:00PM.  Children must be accompanied by adults, have their own bait and tackle to participate.  There is no fee to enter and prizes will be awarded by age group.   For more information, call Ron or Carol Mulack 256-233-3634.

Alabama's Free Fishing Day is June 9th and offers the opportunity for citizens and visitors to enjoy the rich fishing grounds of state waters.   Learn more here.

June 9th is also the MS Kayak: Rocket City event on the Limestone County Canoe and Kayak Trail.   Paddlers will enjoy Class 1 waters, lunch, snacks and drinks.   No kayak, no problem!  Local outfitter, Fort Hampton Outfitters, will be offering equipment rentals to help you hit the water and fight for a cure to MS.   Learn more or register here at Eventbrite.

You can hit the water with the help of Lucy's Branch Marina who offer a variety of pontoon rentals for either half day (4 hours) or all day (8 hours).  Located on Wheeler Lake, Lucy's Branch Marina is a great starting point for a day of fishing, swimming, or just relaxing.

Fort Hampton Outfitters can help you get on the waters of the Limestone County Elk River Canoe and Kayak Trail any day of the week with rentals and guide service.   The trail is over 10 miles of scenic waterway great for a lazy paddle or fishing.

To learn more about boat ramps, Lucy's Branch Marina, Fort Hampton Outfitters, the canoe and kayak trail and the type of fish you might encounter, visit the Our Waters page at VisitAthensAL.com.
