USDA, Alabama Sign Historic Agreement to Improve Forest Conditions on Public and Private Lands​

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – USDA Under Secretary of Agriculture James Hubbard and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a Shared Stewardship agreement at a virtual signing event on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

The agreement is between USDA's Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service, along with, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Alabama Forestry Commission.

​Special Waterfowl Hunting Days Announced for Youth, Veterans and Active Military Personnel 

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (ADCNR) Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) has designated Saturday, November 21, 2020, as one of the 2020-2021 hunting season’s Special Youth, Veteran and Active Military Personnel Waterfowl Hunting Days. The second of the two special waterfowl hunting days is scheduled for February 6, 2021. 

On those days, military personnel on active duty, veterans (as defined in section 101 of U.S. Code: Title 38), and youth under age 16 who are accompanied by a licensed adult hunter may hunt for waterfowl statewide. Regular waterfowl season shooting hours, bag limits, legal arms and ammunitions apply to the special days. Hunting area rules and regulations also apply.

CALHOUN COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO CLOSE EARLY AND DELAY START DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS

Due to current wintry weather conditions, all campuses of Calhoun Community College will close today, January 11, at 3:30 pm. Evening classes are also cancelled. The campus will delay opening on Tuesday, January 12, at 9:00 am. Classes will resume.

2021 FESTIVAL OF THE CRANES EXHIBIT NOW OPEN

Decatur, AL – The Alabama Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the opening of the 7th annual juried Festival of the Cranes Exhibit in the Center’s Walking Gallery. The show will be held in conjunction with the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Association’s annual Festival of the Cranes, which will take place on Saturday, January 9 in Decatur, Alabama.
