North Alabama Fall Bucket List           
Fall means football games, colorful foliage, getting lost in a corn maze, trips to the pumpkin patch, mums, pumpkin-flavored everything, fall festivals, county fairs, cooler weather, and so much more. North Alabama is a wonderful place to celebrate fall and scratch off all fall bucket list items off your list. These activities need to be on your North Alabama fall bucket list:  (Athens-Limestone events noted in red)

  1. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick a pumpkin (McGee Farm in Florence)
  2. Go to a fall festival (Decatur Riverfest, Boom Days, Hartselle Depot Days, Red Bay Founder’s Fest, Winfield’s Mule Day, Eva Frontier Days, River Clay Fine Arts Festival, Athens Grease Festival, Pat Buttram Festival, Cullman Oktoberfest, Alabama Gourd Show, Buttahatchee River Fall Festival, Boaz Harvest Festival, Blount County Covered Bridge Arts and Music Festival, Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddler’s Convention, Rivers & Brews Concert Series, Athens Storytelling Festival, Rogersville’s Fall Festival)
  3. Go on a haunted walk (Athens Haunt Walks and Decatur Ghost Walk)
  4. Go to a county fair (Morgan County Fair)
  5. Go fishing (North Alabama’s 8 Great Lakes: Bear Creek Lakes, Lake Guntersville, Neely Henry, Pickwick, Smith, Weiss, Wheeler, and Wilson)
  6. Take a drive to see colorful fall foliage (Lookout Mountain Parkway, Natchez Trace)
  7. Take a blanket and watch a football game (Alabama A&M, UNA, high school football)
  8. Take a hike (Bankhead National Forest, Cane Creek Canyon, Dismals Canyon, Huntsville Botanical Garden, Hurricane Creek, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Noccalula Falls Park, North Alabama Land Trust, Point Mallard Park, Rails to Trails, Russell Cave National Monument, Walls of Jericho, Wheeler Wildlife Refuge)
  9. Visit one or all of the waterfalls on the North Alabama Waterfall Trail
  10. Go on the Covered Bridge Trail (Easley Covered Bridge – Rosa; Horton Mill Covered Bridge – Oneonta; Swann Covered Bridge – Cleveland; Clarkson-Legg Covered Bridge – Cullman; Cambron Covered Bridge – Huntsville; Old Union Covered Bridge – Mentone; Gilliland Reese Covered Bridge – Gadsden)
  11. Visit a state park and check out their special fall programs (Buck’s Pocket, Cathedral Caverns, DeSoto, Joe Wheeler, Lake Guntersville, Monte Santo, Rickwood Caverns)
  12. Go to a microbrewery or local winery and sample new fall flavors (Back Forty Beer Company, Blue Pants Brewery, Goat Island Brewing, Mad Malts Brewing, Main Channel Brewery, Salty Nut Brewing, Singin' River Brewing, Straight to Ale, Yellowhammer Brewing, Jules J. Berta Vineyards and Winery, Maraella Winery, Wills Creek Winery)
