Dec 1st - Athens Christmas Parade. Athens Christmas Parade starts at Athens High School/Swan Creek Park 100 U.S. Highway 31N and travels west on Hobbs Street to North Jefferson Street and turns south toward the downtown square and finishes in the Hometown Grocery/Athens-Limestone Public Library area.
Dec. 1st -- The Limestone County Commission's Christmas Tree Lighting at the Limestone County Courthouse. Ornaments created by area students will be displayed on the tree. Santa is expected to make an appearance and snow is expected! 4:30PM
Dec 3rd - Santa Claus will be checking with his favorite youngsters in Limestone County twice in the month of December. This FREE, Quality of Life, event will formally open on Saturday December 3rd, 2016 at Big Spring Memorial Park from 5-7pm with Santa available for photos. This family event is supported by Lowe’s of Athens, Athens Parks and Rec, Athens Mayor’s Office, Athens-Limestone County Tourism, Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful and Spirit of Athens. Santa will make another appearance on Dec. 17th and read “The Night Before Christmas” for the children.

Dec. 6th -- The annual Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee's Christmas Tree Lighting. This year, Athens Parks and Recreation is hosting a Candy Cane Hunt. Athens Fire and Rescue is the official transportation service for Santa in Athens, and firefighters will bring him around 5 p.m. to the park. Dec 11 -- Flash mob Nativity. First Presbyterian Church on The Square in Athens will hold a flash mob Nativity at 9:30 a.m. during its annual Christmas program. Everyone from infants to age 90 can participate. All you have to do is show up. Costumes will be available or bring your own. Choose your role. Dec. 24th - Christmas Eve Services at FUMC Athens. We will offer three Christmas Eve services this year. Our 4:00 p.m. service will be led by the Children’s Music Ministry. Our 7:00 p.m. service will be led by the Route 56 Octane and Wesleyan Youth Choirs. Our 11:00 p.m. service will include Communion and music from the Sanctuary Choir. All three services will include candlelight. We hope you and your family will make plans to worship with us on Christmas Eve and celebrate the birth of our Savior. Traditionally, our Christmas Eve Services are very well attended and the sanctuary is often filled. We provide overflow seating in Hancock Hall for the 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. services. Additionally, our church parking lots will fill up quickly. When church lots are filled, please use the Washington Street pay parking deck.
