Feb 21st -- The Athens-Limestone County Public library is proud to be partnering with the Limestone County Republicans to bring Alabama Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker to Athens. He will present a talk on the Christian foundations of early American law. He will give the talk twice on the same day, once from 3:00 to 4:00 and again from 6:00 to 8:00. Both presentations are free and open to the public.
Feb 22nd -- BBQ & Cornbread: Grant for Carnegie King Come enjoy barbeque from a local legendary pitmaster, along with all the southern sides and fixings from the great folks at Food Fite of Athens from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Also enjoy live music, fellowship, a casual environment and the hospitality of Loft 1880 (222 W. Market St. Athens) – one of the most unique event venues in north Alabama. Tickets are $30 each or $50 for a couple. You can pay online or pay at the door with a check or debit/credit card, but please RSVP at the ticket link to have a catering headcount. Proceeds from the event go to support the candidacy for Grant Thompson as Carnegie Carnival King, an initiative to raise money to support the mission of the Carnegie Visual Arts Center and to expand the availability of the arts to everyone in our region. Feb 25th -- Alabama Bass Trail Tournament - Wheeler Lake The Alabama Bass Trail returns to Wheeler Lake for their February 25, 2017 tournament. Up to 225 boats will come to fish for a variety of Bass -- Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Spotted. They will set out from Ingalls Harbor in Decatur with refueling, docking and food available on the water at Lucy's Branch Marina on the shores of Limestone County. Registration Closed. Tournament will recorded by Fox Sports Southeast and aired in July.
Feb 26th -- Fairview Baptist Church invites the public to an evening of music with Bradley Walker starting at 5:30PM at 27550 Nick Davis Road in Athens. Bradley Walker known for his country, bluegrass and gospel hails from Athens, Alabama. He's performed with a variety of acts including The Gaithers.
Feb 26th -- 2-S Spring Series 2017 Join 2-S Arena for their Spring Series 2017 Barrel Racing Series at the 2-S Arena 26155 Thach Road in Athens, Alabama starting with Exhibition Barrels at 12:00PM to 2:30PM with the show starting at 3:00PM. Feb 28th -- Laissez les bons temps rouler! Join the Best Little 2-block Mardi Gras with the Art Krewe as the Her-A-Cranes and let the good times roll for the whole family! Have the kids bring their wagons and decorate them with High Cotton Arts and walk their newly made "floats" in the parade. Stop in and make mask for the parade too, both starting at 5:30PM. Drop by the Center for Lifelong Learning - Athens State University and check out the Gumbo! Crowd favorite. Athens Lions Club Train will be there too as the parade rolls the circuit starting at 6:30PM. Have old Mardi Gras beads and coins lying around? Drop them off at the Center for Lifelong Learning and help make this a spectacular event.
Mar 3rd -- Athens Renaissance School presents an evening of live music with The Late Evening Crows, Lillian Glanton and Barcode featuring key members of Toby Keith's "Easy Money Band" at 405 E. South Street in Athens. A Quality Concert Production by the students of the Music Entertainment Tour Logistics (METL) Program. Tickets are $10.00 each. March 2, 3, & 4 -- Athens Senior Center 912 West Pryor Street Athens, AL The successful Poke Sallet Follies is an annual fundraising event hosted by the foundation board each spring. This 3-night dinner event provides entertainment and comedy while showcasing many local politicians and dignitaries. Tickets for the 2017 show will go on sale Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Athens Senior Center on Pryor Street.
March 4th - Athens Alabama will kick off their 200th Anniversary with Rebekah Davis, Limestone County Archivist, and Athens State Professor, Dr. Harry Joiner, giving the history of the territory for Limestone County. This first of our Bicentennial learning events will be held at the 'Revival Center' on Washington Street on Saturday March 4th at 11:30AM.

Mar 4th -- North Alabama Birders Association's final trip to White Springs Dike - Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge for birding a variety of ducks in the area (especially Shovelers), good songbirds, other water birds, raptors, etc from 7:00AM-3:00PM. Take the Mooresville exit off I-565, go south on Mooresville Road and meet at the parking area near where it intersects with old Highway 20 (34.627442 -86.880186). Mar 4th -- Join Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful at the Boat Ramp at Hatchery Road just off AL99 past the Elk River Bridge at 8:00AM until 12:00PM for their annual river and shoreline cleanup of the Elk River Canoe and Kayak Trail. Cmplimentary lunch will be served at noon to volunteers. Proper Dress: Participants should wear long pants and shoes appropriate for walking in the woods or on boats and bring gloves. Mar 16th -- The Cadillacs at Yesterday's Senior Lunch Matinee Show at 15631 Brownsferry Road in Athens. March's featured performers will be the The Cadillacs with a collection of Oldies, Doo-Wop and Old Country..
